Be a Podcast Guest

Thanks for your interest in being on the show! The Near & Far Podcast invites people with interesting travel stories, helpful tips, or unique perspectives to share your insights with listeners. We believe the world is a better place when people value learning from cultures and experiences that differ from their own, and we look forward to hearing what you have to offer!

Podcast Format

The host (Zackery Ellis) and a guest (you!) meet for a casual conversation. Episodes are divided into three segments of 10-15 minutes each, and each segment covers either one story or one theme. We especially enjoy hearing stories about venturing beyond your comfort zone and overcoming challenges while traveling. The host will guide the conversation and keep it on topic, so you get to focus on sharing your experiences!

Prepare for the Show

We want to hear the best version of you, so there’s a short guest onboarding process. Finishing each step should automatically take you to the next step. If you need to reschedule, simply find the button at the bottom of your confirmation email and select a better time.

  1. Schedule a remote pre-interview call to discuss conversation topics, get comfortable with the podcast format, test for technical issues, and answer any questions you have about recording. This step is especially helpful if you do not have professional microphones or storytelling experience. (20-30 minutes)
  2. Fill out the guest info & consent form. You’ll get to suggest topics, consent to the recording, and let us know if you’d like to promote anything on your episode. Be sure to mention if your publish date is time-sensitive. (5-10 minutes)
  3. Schedule your remote podcast recording. Be sure to have a quiet room available with a presentable background, a wired microphone, and headphones. (45 minutes)

Reach out to [email protected] if you have any suggestions for improving this experience!

Day of the Show

Note that video and audio will be recorded. Make sure you have a quiet place to record (avoid echo) with a reliable internet connection, and be mindful of your background that will appear in the video.

Podcasts are for listening, so use a wired microphone and dedicated headphones if you have them available. Otherwise please reach out to [email protected] to figure out the best way to record great audio with your available equipment.

It’s also ideal to have your camera at eye level instead of looking up at you, so improvise a laptop stand if you don’t have a dedicated webcam.

It also helps to silence your phone and have a glass of water nearby.

Most importantly, relax and have fun! Be yourself! We get to have a conversation about your neat experiences, and we get to share your insights with people who might find them useful!

When Will My Episode be Published?

Interviews are recorded 6-8 weeks in advance. If you have a time-sensitive promotion in your episode (book launch, fundraiser, etc), please mention it in your guest info & consent form.

You should receive an email with your publish date about a week in advance. Upon publishing, we will send information making it easy to share your episode with friends and colleagues.
